Resonant SAW sensors for wireless strain and temperature measurements

Abstract

Many types of wireless passive sensors such as load cells, accelerometer, pressure and torque sensors can be implemented on the basis of SAW strain sensors. Two major versions of wireless SAW sensors, reflective delay lines and one-port resonators, are compared. Design of the torque, pressure and temperature sensors is discussed and their characteristics are presented. The emphasis is made on the temperature variation of the torque sensitivity. An overview of non-contact interrogation techniques is followed by a detailed analysis of a pulsed and a continuous tracking interrogators. Theoretical results are compared with experimental ones.
